Our curated events and to-do’s for the month of August
Things to do in August: Treat Your Ears…
Bring the whole family to see performances by artists from all over the country at Summer Concerts at the Skirball. The free events, starting the last week in July and continuing throughout August, feature all types of music including jazz, samba, and blues. Dinner, snacks, and a full bar are available during the shows. While the event is free, parking costs $10, and you must show a parking receipt to gain entrance.
The online streaming radio station Pandora is throwing a free summer concert at L.A. Live in Downtown Los Angeles. RSVP online to see performances by 5 Seconds of Summer, Fergie, and Daya. An RSVP gets your name on the wristband list for the August 13th event, but wristbands will be given out on a first come, first serve basis before the show starts. This concert is sure to hit capacity, so we recommend getting there early to ensure you get a wristband.
One of the biggest festivals in Los Angeles is back again August 27th and 28th. This year’s FYF Fest headliners include Kendrick Lamar, Tame Impala, and LCD Soundsystem. Single day tickets for the Downtown Los Angeles festival are sold out, but there are still two days passes available starting at $199.
Things to do in August: Get Cultured…
The largest short film festival in Hollywood celebrates it’s 12th year starting August 11th-20th at the TLC Chinese 6. The festival incorporates screenings, panels, networking events, and more. An all-access pass will set you back $600, but individual screening prices start at $15.
Echo Park Rising showcases what the diverse city has to offer in terms of small businesses, music and creativity. The August 18th– 21st events feature over 100 musical acts, food trucks, and sponsorships by 44 local businesses. Echo Park Rising is free for all ages. However, there is an option to buy a VIP ticket, which allows for skipping the line, easy bar access, goodie bags, and special viewing areas, starting at $21.
