Things to do in February: Put Those New Year’s Resolutions to The Test…
Dieting is no fun, so give yourself a little break and check out the LA Cookie Con and Sweets Show. The February 6th-7th event is the largest baking, decorating, and pastry convention on the west coast. There will be tons of sweet samples from national and local brands, specialized baking classes (vegan, gluten free, paleo), and celebrity chefs. General admission starts at $21, and a two-day pass will run you $35.
If you’ve been sticking to those exercise resolutions, try pushing yourself at the LA Marathon. The February 14th race begins at Dodger Stadium and extends all the way to Santa Monica. Registration costs total $200, and every participant gets a commemorative medal.
Things to do in February: Celebrate Chinese New Year…
Thousands gather together in Chinatown from 10pm-12am on February 7th to make offerings to deities, set off firecrackers to wake spirits, and burn incense to bring good fortune. This event, for the Year of the Monkey, is free and open to the public.
The 117th LA Golden Dragon Parade in Downtown’s Chinatown area is great for families. The parade includes over two dozen floats, multiple marching bands, and musical acts. The February 13th event also gives the over 110,000 attendees a great chance to check out local businesses. The parade begins at 1pm and is free to the public. Streets will be closed for the event, though, so it is best to get there early.
Things to do in February: Be Romantic…
Looking for something different to do with your significant other for Valentine’s? Look no further than The Naked At The Getty Scavenger Hunt. Don’t let the name fool you. They’ll make you keep your clothes on. The adults’ only scavenger hunt has guests search for answers to clues all throughout the museum. Plus, they have awesome prizes like gift cards and backpacks. There are two hunts on the 13th and one on the 14th. Participation costs are $24.50.
If you’re trying to stay away from all the mushiness of the holiday, check out Birds’ Anti-Valentines Party. The bar/restaurant holds the event every year on February 14th and features voodoo dolls and piñatas to help people get their aggression against their ex’s out, music for heartbreak, and prizes for the best stories of getting dumped. Plus, since everyone is single you might even grab a number or two.
Things to do in February: Check Out Some Cool Stuff…
Snowboarder Shaun White brings together fans of the sport and music lovers at his two-day Air + Style Festival. The February 20th-21st event takes place in Downtown’s Expo Park. There will be two stages for the dozens of musical acts including J.Cole, Incubus, and Kaskade. Some of the world’s best snowboards will also be going head to head on the 16-story high snowboard jump. One-day tickets start at $75.
